One of the largest churches in Greece, Agios Nektarios has two tall bell towers and four rows of windows topped with red arches.
Behind the church is a convent, which was built between 1904 and 1910 by Bishop Pentapoleos Nektarios. Nektarios lived in the monastery and died in 1920. In 1961, he was declared a saint. Several nuns now live here.
The monastery celebrates its feast day on November 9, when thousands of people from all over Greece gather here.
The monastery is located in the middle of the island, next to the main road to Agia Marina, 6 kilometers from the town of Aegina.
