Folegandros is a small mountainous island in the Cyclades archipelago. Although it has recently become more and more of a tourist destination, it still retains its original character. However, it has beautiful beaches and a typical Mediterranean fishing atmosphere. In the port of Karavostasis you will find, in addition to a few fishing boats, tavernas, a cafeteria and a few hotels. The stunning capital of Chora is situated on a ridge in the middle of the island. Here you can relax in the shade of the trees and enjoy the true Greek atmosphere, taste Greek specialities and wine. The beaches of the island are very quiet. A popular beach is Katorgo, accessible on foot by an easy path. Others include Angali, Agios Nikolaos and Livadaki.

Legend has it that when God finished creating the world, he was left with dozens of stones. Even though he was a god, he didn't know what to do with them. So he just threw them into the sea. These "stones" are now known as the Cyclades archipelago. Folegandros is the pearl among them. It abounds in rugged beauty and is ideal for those seeking solitude and peace.

The history of the rocky island of Folegandros is long and full of blood and violence. The island takes its name from Folegandros, the mythological leader of the Cretans. The Romans used this small and remote island to house people condemned to exile. It was attacked by pirates who sold the islanders into slavery. Until 1821, the Turks ruled Folegandros.

There are three villages on the island - Karavostasis, Chora and Ano Meria. Among the architectural monuments of the island we should mention the Kastro Castle built in the 13th century. Another gem is the church of Panagia, built by a local fisherman in gratitude for being miraculously saved when his boat sank in a storm. The hard-to-reach Chrissospilia cave hides a rich display of stalactites. But the entrance is on a cliff above the sea, so few people venture here.
